Upon completing the workshop, you will be able to:
✅ use the principles of adult education and effective coaching to give parents the training and support they need to become the primary facilitators of their child’s language development
✅ deliver the It Takes Two to Talk® Program for parents of children with language delays
✅ set communication goals for each child, based on their developmental stage and communication style
✅ provide coaching and feedback through individual video feedback sessions with parents, aimed at long-term behaviour change
✅ apply Hanen strategies and coaching principles in your everyday clinical practice, including individual sessions with children and their parents
Upon completing the workshop, you are certified to:
1. Deliver the It Takes Two to Talk® Program for Parents of Children with Language Delays
In this group programme, parents learn to identify their child’s stage of communication, set appropriate communication goals, and use evidence-based communication strategies in everyday interactions to help their child achieve those goals.
2. Offer individual (1-to-1) coaching to parents
Certification includes a licence and materials for implementing It Takes Two to Talk® the 1-1 Way – a flexible framework for coaching individual parents that maintains best-practice criteria for effective adult education.
3. Offer the It Takes Two to Talk® Program via telepractice
Certification includes a licence and materials for delivering the programme online to groups of parents. The online version of It Takes Two to Talk® retains the best-practice elements of in-person Hanen programmes, while making the programme more accessible to families.
You will gain access to all the digital materials you need to successfully integrate It Takes Two to Talk® into your professional practice.

It Takes Two to Talk® – The Hanen Certification Workshop is intended exclusively for Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs).
The workshop will be held over 4 days instead of the usual 3-day format, offering a more comfortable pace, particularly for participants whose first language is not English.

Hanen Instructor
Jo Bristow is a Speech-Language Pathologist who has been working with children with developmental disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorder since 1990, with professional experience in the United Kingdom, Southeast Asia and Australia.
As a Hanen Instructor, she works with The Hanen Centre to deliver the It Takes Two to Talk® and SPARK Communication™ workshops. She has been a Hanen member for many years and has delivered Hanen programmes for families in Australia and in countries across Southeast Asia. She is currently The Hanen Centre’s Representative for Australasia.
